The Klein Family Development Company was founded in 1925 by Maurice and Sara Klein, when they opened their first store in Fallston, Maryland, on the "Ma & Pa" railroad line.

After World War II, Maurice and Sara's son Ralph Klein and his wife Shirley continued the Klein Family enterprise with land purchases, developments (both residential and commercial), the creation of shopping centers, commercial leasing, and more. Ralph and Shirley Klein were joined by their three sons: Andy, Michael and Howard.

And this was (and is) in addition to the family's commitment to being one of the only locally-owned supermarket chains in the state: Klein's Family Markets, trading as Klein's ShopRite of Maryland, now has nine stores in Harford County, Baltimore County and Baltimore City, and is the leading grocery store retailer in Harford County.

A Family-Owned and Operated Development Company

The Klein Family Development Company is headed by third-generation member Michael J. Klein, Chairman and President, and continues to the fourth generation, with Stephen H. Klein (son of Howard S. Klein*) as Vice President and Director of Development.

Klein's Family Markets is led by President and CEO Marshall J. Klein, son of Andrew P. Klein.* Other fourth generation members include Vice Presidents Sarah B. Klein, Jacob I. Klein and David C. Klein
